Google Interview Warmup Is Gone: What to Use Instead

Google's Interview Warmup page now points to Gemini Live. What the tool did, what changed, and free ways to keep practicing interview answers out loud.

Google Interview Warmup was one of the few free tools that let you answer interview questions out loud and see your words come back as text. If you open its old address today, Google's page talks about Gemini Live instead and does not mention Interview Warmup at all.

Several career sites report that the tool was taken down in spring 2026 without a formal announcement. We could not find a Google statement with a date, so treat the exact timing as unconfirmed. What is clear is that the tool is no longer where it was, and the guides that still recommend it send readers to a page that does something else.

This guide covers what Interview Warmup actually did, what Google points to now, and free ways to keep the same habit going: answering real questions out loud and reviewing what you said.

What Interview Warmup Did

Google launched Interview Warmup in 2022 through Grow with Google [2]. It was simple on purpose, and that was its appeal.

  1. Question sets for five fields (UX design, e-commerce, project management, data analytics and IT support) plus general questions for everyone else, five questions per session.
  2. You could type an answer or speak it, and spoken answers were transcribed.
  3. After each answer it showed three kinds of insight: job-related terms, your most-used words, and talking points you covered.
  4. It did not grade answers. Google described the insights as a way to notice patterns, not a judgment of right or wrong.
  5. It was free.

What Google Points to Now: Gemini Live

The page that used to host Interview Warmup now describes Gemini Live, the voice mode in the Gemini mobile app, which Google says you can use to simulate a real-time, conversational interview [1]. It also links to a course on using AI in a job search and to Career Dreamer, which helps you find transferable skills.

Gemini Live is a general assistant, not a practice tool. It will hold a spoken conversation, but you set up the interview yourself: the role, the kind of questions, how tough the interviewer should be, and what feedback you want at the end. If you go this route, a clear opening instruction makes a big difference.

A setup you can paste into Gemini Live

Say or paste something like this at the start of the session, then answer each question out loud:

Free Ways to Keep Practicing Out Loud

The habit Interview Warmup built is worth keeping: hear a real question, answer it out loud, then look at what you actually said. Any of these keeps that loop going for free.

Gemini Live, with your own setup

Free in the Gemini app. Best if you want open conversation and are comfortable writing the interviewer's instructions yourself. Ask for the feedback you want, because it will not track your progress between sessions on its own.

Intervoo's free plan

Intervoo is built for interview practice, so the question sets, the scoring and the follow-ups are already there. Every new account starts with a 14-day Pro trial. After the trial, the free plan keeps 3 practice sessions a day and 3 mock interviews a day (20 minutes each), plus 3 Live Copilot sessions a month. Practice answers get a score out of 100 with the reasons behind it, and the mock interview is spoken, with a debrief at the end. Disclosure: this is our product.

Your phone's voice recorder

Pick a question, record a 90-second answer, and play it back once. You will hear filler words, missing results and long setups faster than you will read them. It costs nothing and works anywhere.

A person who will push back

A friend, a mentor or your school's career center can do what most tools cannot: react like a person who is unconvinced. Use them for your two or three most important stories once the basics are solid.

A 10-Minute Daily Routine to Replace It

Whatever tool you use, the routine matters more than the tool.

  1. Minute 0 to 1: pick one question you are likely to get for your target role.
  2. Minute 1 to 3: answer it out loud, start to finish, without stopping to restart.
  3. Minute 3 to 5: read or listen to what you said, and find the one weakest part (usually a missing result or a vague 'we').
  4. Minute 5 to 8: answer the same question again, fixing only that part.
  5. Minute 8 to 10: write one sentence on what changed, so tomorrow's session starts from it.

The Bottom Line

Interview Warmup's old page now points to Gemini Live, so guides that still recommend it send people somewhere else. The habit it taught still works: answer real questions out loud and review what you said. Gemini Live can do that if you set it up yourself, a voice recorder can do it for free, and Intervoo does it with questions, scoring and spoken mock interviews built in.
